Random fact of the evening:

"In Teen Titans, Malcolm McDowell (who portrayed Alex DeLarge in the film) voiced Mad Mod, a recurring villain who used technological illusions and brainwashing techniques. His appearances have included several nods to A Clockwork Orange, including a scene in the episode bearing his name where Starfire was attempting to resist a brainwashing that was strongly similar to the Ludovico Technique; her eyes were held open by the chair restraining her in front of a hypnotism screen."

How the hell did I not catch this.

Mad Mod is Alex <s>is England.</s>

What is this.

I'll admit it.

I have an addiction to Ellen Hopkins books. It's like Degrassi in poetry form.

I just read through the entirety of Tricks today.

I ENJOY MY PROSTITUTION BOOKS, WHAT CAN I SAY.

I will also freely admit that my favorites were the straight boy who turned out bi (AND POSSIBLY DEAD WHO THE FUCK KNOWS BUT I'LL BE PISSED IF HE DIES), the lesbian who got raped, and the girl who whores herself out of Jesus camp.

THERE BETTER BE A SEQUEL WITH THE GAY BOY WHO IS STILL A WHORE.

Oh well at least the ending isn't like Burned or Impulse. Oh my god I was just expecting them all to die and I am SO GLAD the lesbian and Jesus girl had happy endings. If only Cody gets out of him coma, then I will consider it a good ending.

The characters drive the plot rather than the other way around.

Basis of the plot: In the siege of Leningrad during WWII, a pessimistic Russian Jew and a light-hearted Red Army soldier accused of desertion get a second chance when sent by a government official on a mission. Their mission? Find one dozen fresh eggs for the officer's daughter for her wedding in one week. Mixed with hilarity and depression, it's a FANTASTIC story that's written in a way that you can nearly see what's going on. ALSO, KOLYA. KOLYAAAAAAA.

And that's the only one I feel like going into detail with HERE HAVE A LONGER LIST:

Good Omens by Niel Gaiman & Terry Pratchett-- if you haven't read this YOU SHOULD. A hilarious take on the apocalypse, starring a demon who drives a Bentley and his angel hetero life partner.
The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall-- psychologically provocative book with thought-sharks. Where can you go wrong with thought sharks.
Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut-- WORLD WAR II WITH ALIENS AND QUESTIONING FREE WILL. IT'S AWESOME.
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky-- so long but I can not stress how good this classic is. C'mon, don't tell me you don't want to read about a Russian guy try to justify killing an old woman with an axe. There's also a pedophile in it.
A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving-- Another great classic! Very oddly structured in that the book works backwards. You know immediately that Owen Meany is dead, but you spend the rest of the book reading about his life and how he died. Irving can get a little repetitive with his "GRRRR REGAN" rants but it's such a good bookkkkk.
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger-- okay now I'm just listing all the good books from my AP Lit class. Anyway, IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS, DO IT. NOW. Holden can get a little annoying sometimes but I still want him to be my bff.

So let's get the one non-Hetalia one out of the way, shall we?

Harry Potter and the Eagle of Truthiness-- Yes. Colbert as the DADA teacher.

O'er the Land of the Free-- WWII AU where America is invaded and captured as a prisoner of war. This:

For one week, recommend / share:
<s>Day 1: a song</s>
<s>Day 2: a picture</s>
Day 2.5: a doujin
Day 3: a book/ebook/fanfic
Day 4: a site
Day 5: a youtube clip
Day 6: a quote
Day 7: whatever tickles your fancy

BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE TIME TO LIST BOOKS OR FICS RIGHT THIS SECOND AND I JUST FINISHED THIS CRAZY AWESOME NO SERIOUSLY I JUST FINISHED READING IT AND NOW I HAVE TO SHARE.

AMERICA IS A BEAUTIFUL ANIMAL.

LIKE I SAID, CRAZY AWESOME.

So, okay, synopsis:

Basically the whole story revolves around America (and Canada to some degree) growing up. England goes fucking nuts with power and is referred to as "The British Empire". There's a TON of historical events (and figures! Churchill and several American presidents make appearances <s>and America calls George Washington "father" awwwwww I'm so using this in RP now</s>) that basically center around America's desire to grow up to be a world superpower. There's the reoccurring theme of Washington's wish not to get involved with European affairs, which plays a lot into the story up until WWI. Russia, Austria, Prussia, and France show up quite a few times, the Axis Powers towards the end. What's awesome is that it has SO MUCH to do with historical events and American hegemony. Not all of it's accurate and it gets kinda... weird, even more so towards the end, but c'mon. HE JUST FUCKING RIPPED THE HEGEMONY OUT OF ENGLAND. THAT WILL NEVER STOP BEING AWESOME.

Also, badass!War of 1812!Canada

It is SO FUCKING LONG (like more than 200 pages) but so worth it for all the Hetalia readers. It says it's USxUK but really it's much more familial love than an actual pairing, considering America basically calls England his mother. Link to the doujin is in the Hetalia comm here.

Okay BACK TO RANTING ABOUT HOW THE POD PEOPLE ARE COMMUNISTS.

Good God was there ever an empire/loosely assembled group of Europeans that didn't kick the shit out of them? I find this both hilarious and sad.

Mostly hilarious. Must look more into them.

It's especially hilarious now that I have thoughts of the Ottomans chucking Hungarians at the walls of Constantinople.

Sounds like it would be on the Juno soundtrack if Juno was as depressing as Pan's Labyrinth.

<lj-embed id="16" />

I swear to god I listen to this song every day. It makes me think of gunfights :|

<lj-embed id="17" />

idek this video but this is seriously one of my favorite Guster songs. I think Guster is like my default band to listen to if I'm trying to sleep/concentrate/don't feel like flipping around music.

<lj-embed id="18" />

It's on every FST ever I know, but it's so mellow and I love itttt.

<lj-embed id="19" />

THANK YOU KYTHA. I THINK I DOWNLOADED THIS WHEN I WAS STILL STALKING YOU.

YOU KNOW WHAT? BONUS. HERE'S A SONG TO ROCK OUT TO.

<lj-embed id="20" />

Everybody's Got The Right (Finale)- Assassins Revival Cast
The most positive American song about freedom and opportunity in the USA, sung by Presidential assassins.

Everybody's got the right to some sunshine
Not the sun, but maybe one of it's beams
One of it's beams
Rich man, poor man, black or white
Everybody gets a bite, everybody's got the right to their dreams.
Everybody's got the right... to their dreams

2. Gun Song- Assassins Revival Cast
So many ways this fits. So many. Especially when you get to Moore's "SHIT WHERE IS IT?"

And all you have to do
Is squeeze your little finger.
Ease your little finger back-
You can change the world.

Whatever else is true,
You trust your little finger.
Just a single little finger
Can change the world.

3. Another National Anthem- Assassins Revival Cast
America wants <s>his prize</s> recognition for being SO AMAZING <s>at killing Gnat-zees</s>.

You can be
What you choose,
From a mailman to a president.
There are prizes all around you,
If you're wise enough to see:
The delivery boy's on Wall Street,
And the the usherette's a rock star

4. You're Gonna Go Far, Kid- The Offspring
There's other reasons behind this choice involving rising in the world as a super power, but for now, just imagine America kicking ass to this.

And now you'll lead the way
Show the light of day
Nice work you did
You're gonna go far, kid

With a thousand lies and a good disguise
Hit 'em right between the eyes, hit 'em right between the eyes
When you walk away, nothing more to say
See the lightning in your eyes, see them running for their lives.

5. Knights of Cydonia- Muse
COWBOYS AND ROBOTS AND TIME TRAVEL WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS EVERYTHING AMERICAN.

No one's gonna take me alive
The time has come to make things right
You and I must fight for our rights
You and I must fight to survive

6. No More Stones- Enter the Haggis
Hindsight is a bitch.

Thought we had a grudge against
Our friends who live beyond the fence
Victims of a circumstance or
writers of our fate?
Proud enough to cast a stone

But not enough to lose our homes
Now it's done we have been shown
The things
that were at stake

7. World Town- M.I.A.
Clearly, America is a representative for all. Anyone who disagrees can suck it.

Hands up
Guns out
Represent the world town

8. Gun Powder- M.I.A. vs. KMFDM
THIS IS HIS THEME MUSIC TO DROP-KICKING EVERYONE CHUCK NORRIS STYLE.

Time to spit new shit
I'm rocking on this new bit
I'm hot now you'll see
I'll fight you just to get peace

9. Happiness Is A Warm Gun- Joe Anderson (Across the Universe)
I could ramble about the war and PTSD but I'm sure you'd rather not hear it. AtU version because, before the anime came out, I envisioned him being voiced by Joe Anderson.

Happiness is a warm gun
Bang Bang Shoot Shoot
Happiness is a warm gun
Bang Bang Shoot Shoot

When I hold you in my arms
And when I feel my finger on your trigger
I know nobody can do me no harm

10. Uh-Merica- Regina Spektor
Aside from the obvious: just imagine him cleaning his gun to this. Creepy, no?

Mrs. E. Roosevelt never heard me shoot my gun, la, la, la
Mrs. E. Roosevelt didn't even know I owned one la, la, la
Somewhere between the cobblestone floor and the slated wooden ceiling la, la, la
Cuddling my semi-automatic, what a very fuzzy feeling la la la
Oh, there's nothing like emptying a cartridge at the sun

Uh-merica, Uh-merica
Uh-merica, Uh- merica
Oh, there's nothing like emptying a cartridge at the sun.

11. Center of Attention- Guster
Title is fairly self-explanatory. It was either this or "Circus".

I'm the center of attention and the wall's inside my head
And no one will ever know it if I keep my mouth shut tight
My own little world is what I deserve
Cause I am the only child there is
I'm king of it all, the belle of the ball
I promise I've always been like this

12. Balloons- Julia Nunes
Revolutionary America and England.

When you see me for the first time in years
We swore we'd never end up here
Well I won't leave you alone, if it's gone, I'll move on
It's time to leave, while my eyes are still dry
It's time to leave while my head is held high

13. Hero- Nickelback
The default America song. Sorry you have to see it again.

And they say that a hero could save us.
I'm not gonna stand here and wait.
I'll hold on to the wings of the eagles.
Watch as we all fly away.

14. Everyone's a Hero- Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
This one explains itself.

Everyone’s a hero in their own way
Everyone can blaze a hero’s trail
Don’t worry if it’s hard,
if you’re not a friggin ‘tard you will prevail

15. Firefly Main Theme- Joss Whedon
Despite being set in the future, oddly fitting for America's determination and hold onto freedom. Also, western music.

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me

16. Kryptonite- 3 Doors Down
Yet another default America song.

If I go crazy then will you still
Call me Superman
If I'm alive and well, will you be
There holding my hand
I'll keep you by my side with
My superhuman might
Kryptonite

17. Invincible- OK Go
If this song doesn't make you envision him saying "I AM THE HEGEMON, MOTHERFUCKER", I have failed you.

When they finally come to destroy the earth
They’ll have to deal with you first
And my money says they won’t know about the
1000-Fahrenheit hot metal lights behind your eyes

18. Shut Up and Smile- Bowling for Soup
Awwwww drunk and happy and, most importantly, optimistic.

All we need is love and beer
And old school metal and holiday cheer
to be happy
(All you need is someone near)
like Ben and Jerry
(to hold you close and pretend that they care)

Can we all just, get along now
we found something that we all have in common now
we can hold hands, do keg stands
water skiing sounds great to me now

19. We Will Rock You- Queen
I have never seen this on any America FST. That transgression shall be amended today.

HOW WOULD ANYONE NOT KNOW THE LYRICS TO THIS SONG

BONUS:

The Presidents- Jonathan Coulton
A song listing the Presidents. Hellyeah.

Washington came first and he was perfect.
John Adams kept us out of war with France.
Jefferson made Louisiana Purchase.
In 1812 James Madison kicked the British in the pants.

etc.

The Ballad of Czolgosz- Assassins (NEIL PATRICK HARRIS)
<s>I could seriously post the entire Assassins soundtrack and everything would apply.</s> The whole message is about working your way to the top, ending with McKinley's assassination. Not to mention it's incredibly catchy. And NPH.

In the U.S.A.
You can have your say,
You can set you goals
And seize the day,
You've been given the freedom
To work your way
To the head of the line
[BANG]
To the head of the line!

DOWNLOAD:
Sendspace
Mediafire
My friends came to watch Shock Treatment and half of Season 1 of Supernatural in my room. This was after a six hour Firefly marathon the night before. They were in my room for 12 hours. I was with these people for twelve hours watching Supernatural today.

IT WAS GLORIOUS. May even become a ritual.

I managed to get some of my homework done yay. Still have the tests to study for and laundry to do. Hooray.

More school rambling, are you sick of me yet?

So, for those of you who remember me freaking out about my history exam yesterday?

<blink>I KICKED ITS ASS.</blink>

Well, except for the bibliography section, but that was only 10% total. But oh my god. I was so worried that it would all be on Africa and the Middle East, but it basically just asked about commercial cities and Islam. Strangely, the only thing I actually was like "shiiiitttt I hope I included enough info on it" was on Kiev. Fucking. Kiev. I didn't know what to say other than "uhhhh trading city, architecture modeled after Byzantine's St. Sophia, INSERT SOMETHING HERE ABOUT CHRISTIANITY". Ughhh goddamn you Russia/Ukraine/what the fuck were you back then.

I only had 20 minutes to do an essay. I was so scared I wouldn't finish/I wouldn't know what to write about. The question I chose? "During this era, which was the stronger civilization: China or Europe?"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I dominated that essay. I have betrayed Europe, but seriously. China had it goin' on. I even said something along the lines of "The Crusades were proof that during this era, the Europeans failed so hard military-wise they couldn't invade anyone but themselves." And then I rambled about paper currency and bureaucracy and it was glorious.

On a different note: at our school, there's a cork board in the cafeteria where students write on napkins and give praise/criticism to whatever food was in the cafeteria. My friend Megan writes these really poetic, awesome notes about seafood and whatnot. I have taken it upon myself to build an identity as the person who draws weird animals with no relevance to the cafeteria. Yesterday it was a Narwhal. Today it was a Honduran White Bat. What will it be tomorrow? WHO THE FUCK KNOWS.

Also, I like how whenever someone mentions doing laundry, three of my friends and I break into that Dr. Horrible song.

Ahhhhhh two more tests next week. Psychology shouldn't be too bad, since I've already had it before and it's on neuroscience, but Biology. I don't even know. FUCK PROTEINS. That's all I have to say on that.

And yay for Family Weekend next week! My dad's bringing Jack upppppp I must show him off to everyone ever.

Finally: DEAR CUTE BOY IN MY PSYCHOLOGY/GRW CLASS: FUCKING TALK TO ME. YOU'RE SMART AND ADORABLE BEFRIEND ME RIGHT NOWWWWWWWW. /so lame omg, I know

Conquering Spain.
Spain: wat
France: And I'll succeed in pushing the Muslims out this time
Spain: wat

This is how I take history notes (kinda). I also wrote a giant "RUSSIA FUCK YEAH" when it started talking about Kiev.

Must attempt to draw this in comic form some day. I'm in Artist's Union (and Writer's Union and Writer's Theater) so I have to do something for it some day.

On a different note: I can't decide whether the drunk people in the room next to me are amusing or annoying.

edit: Oh god king Christian I of Denmark and Norway thought the French rampage through the Byzantium capital meant it was the apocalypse and a beast would rise out of the sea as predicted in the New Testament. This is now my favorite useless historical fact.

France caused Cloverfield.

2:30 AM and I still have no fucking clue where Hormuz is.

hnnnggghhhhh ASIA MAP QUIZ, YOU ARE MY QUEST

Bodies of water, regions, empires, deserts, and mountains I am solid. Cities? Not so much. I'm just going to have to remember stuff like "HANOI IS IN VIETNAM WHICH IS ANNAM IN THIS TIME PERIOD AND BEJING IS BELOW SHANGHAI AND CALCUTTA IS IN INDIA BY THOSE RIVERS AND GUANGZHOU AKA KWANGCHOW AKA CANTON IS BY HONG KONG."

And we haven't even discussed Song China yet in class. Why not. Song China > rambling about the spread of Islam and the politics of Islam/Christians/Jews. Give me my gunpowder and compasses, damn you.

Fuck. Oh well, next map quiz is on Europe. Byzantine Empire, you will be my BFF.

Hey Kytha I now know where Manila is! (Kind of.)

OH MY GODDDDDD WHAT IS THIS HOW DO I KNOW WHERE THE SAFAVID EMPIRE IS AND I CAN'T FIND NANJING FUUUUCCKKKKK. CAN I GO BACK TO PSYCHOLOGY NOW. CAN I GO BACK TO SYNAPSE GAPS AND AXONS AND NEURAL IMPULSES AND SHIT I ALREADY KNOW? GOOD LORD I HAVE AN EASIER TIME REMEMBERING THE STRUCTURAL FORMULAS FOR CARBOXYL AND AMINO THAN I AM REMEMBERING WHERE THINGS ARE ON A MAP.

As you can tell, I listed the things above because it makes me sound smart. Need a confidence booster, because seriously I'm going to cry my eyes out when we study lipids. And probably tomorrow before the quiz. And I'm having too much fun with the little bits of Chem in Bio and Psych, why am I not in Chem.

Oh, right, because I suck math. Though it did give me an unholy amount of joy to immediately get how ionic compounds work. I looked at it and went "IONNNSSSS YOU ARE MY FRIENDS. LET US JOIN TOGETHER TO MAKE TABLE SALT."

And I was worried about my sciences. Oh, how wrong my priorities were.

Ahhhhhh at least I have psychology and film tomorrow to make things better after I FAIL TO FIND WHERE ISFAHAN IS.

Woooooo home for the weekend. Kinda missing my dorm, but man is it good to see my mom and dog again.

Also oh my god one of my new college friends got me into Assassins. She gave me the Broadway recording with Neil Patrick Harris and I'm going to borrow the screenplay from her when she's done. IT'S SO GOOD. I wish I'd seen the actual show.

I nearly choked when Regan said "WHERE'D THIS KID LEARN TO SHOOT, THE RUSSIAN ARMY?" and ahhhh Ambassador of France I should not be laughing at Guiteau.

WE'RE WATCHING WAR OF THE WORLDS NEXT CLASS. ALL WE DID LAST CLASS WAS TALK ABOUT MOVIES. MY TEACHER WATCHES GHOST IN THE SHELL AND SOMETIMES SHOWS IT. WE MIGHT TAKE A FIELD TRIP TO SEE DISTRICT 9. HALF OF THE CLASS KNOWS WHAT RED VS. BLUE IS.

I'm exciteddddd.

Surprisingly, very little homework (read: none) for bio. The teacher is just like "oh yeah you guys should just study as much as is necessary for you and maybe I'll give you some papers every once in a while idk". She asked us to take a survey, one of the questions being what things might concern us about the course. My answer: Everything ever.

I also said I wanted a job with manatees. Seriously, how cool would that be? Those have to be the most harmless yet interesting creatures to exist.

On the RP front: from what it looks like now, my course load won't be so terrible on a regular basis. I'm gonna stay on hiatus until this weekend though. <s>I'm already planning how to use RP to help study oh god I'm turning into Linda.</s> I hope I don't get inactive with Bad Girl againnn. I want to play her, but. idk. Hard to keep active >:

On the other hand, such glorious plans for Stan, America, and Al. Well, Stan as soon as Linda gets off hiatus, America as soon as Namine plans go through, Al as soon as I come up with a cool plan to get his body back/deal with the homunculi/IDK HE NEEDS TO HAVE MORE PEOPLE HIDE IN HIS ARMOR FIRST.

Also kolkolkolya and I need a clever name for a Red Star journal.
So I just opened my history book. First sentence:

"As any Harry Potter fan knows, the most boring class at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is History of Magic, taught by the dead (and "deadly dull") Professor Binns."

It then goes on to reference and quote Harry Potter at every opportunity for the first chapter.

I am going to like this class.

DID I MENTION MY HISTORY TEACHER'S SPECIALTY IS RUSSIA? Yessss. I mentioned that I'm reading Ivan's War. I think I earned brownie points. On another note, there's a boy in my history class that looks like Hunter Parrish. I think I stared at him for like half the class. There's also a cute boy that sat behind me oh my god it's the first day of class and I'm already scouting out cute boys I'm pathetic.

Read some of my psychology book. It looks like the one I read in high school, so it shouldn't be too hard of a class. I have to participate in experiments and/or critique articles to get credit for the class, which isn't hard so much as it's inconvenient.

Some girls in my dorm and I might throw a fondue party!
