I'll admit it.

I have an addiction to Ellen Hopkins books. It's like Degrassi in poetry form.

I just read through the entirety of Tricks today.

I ENJOY MY PROSTITUTION BOOKS, WHAT CAN I SAY.

I will also freely admit that my favorites were the straight boy who turned out bi (AND POSSIBLY DEAD WHO THE FUCK KNOWS BUT I'LL BE PISSED IF HE DIES), the lesbian who got raped, and the girl who whores herself out of Jesus camp.

What is spectacular about this book is that it is very character-centric. The characters drive the plot rather than the other way around.

Basis of the plot: In the siege of Leningrad during WWII, a pessimistic Russian Jew and a light-hearted Red Army soldier accused of desertion get a second chance when sent by a government official on a mission. Their mission? Find one dozen fresh eggs for the officer's daughter for her wedding in one week. Mixed with hilarity and depression, it's a FANTASTIC story that's written in a way that you can nearly see what's going on. ALSO, KOLYA. KOLYAAAAAAA.

Good Omens by Niel Gaiman & Terry Pratchett-- if you haven't read this YOU SHOULD. A hilarious take on the apocalypse, starring a demon who drives a Bentley and his angel hetero life partner.
The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall-- psychologically provocative book with thought-sharks. Where can you go wrong with thought sharks.
Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut-- WORLD WAR II WITH ALIENS AND QUESTIONING FREE WILL. IT'S AWESOME.
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky-- so long but I can not stress how good this classic is. C'mon, don't tell me you don't want to read about a Russian guy try to justify killing an old woman with an axe. There's also a pedophile in it.
A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving-- Another great classic! Very oddly structured in that the book works backwards. You know immediately that Owen Meany is dead, but you spend the rest of the book reading about his life and how he died. Irving can get a little repetitive with his "GRRRR REGAN" rants but it's such a good bookkkkk.
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger-- okay now I'm just listing all the good books from my AP Lit class. Anyway, IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS, DO IT. NOW. Holden can get a little annoying sometimes but I still want him to be my bff.

So let's get the one non-Hetalia one out of the way, shall we?

Harry Potter and the Eagle of Truthiness-- Yes. Colbert as the DADA teacher.

O'er the Land of the Free-- WWII AU where America is invaded and captured as a prisoner of war. So incredibly sad, yet amazing all at once. bolded because it's my favorite among these.

Serial Killer Serial Victim-- Creepy fic concerning countries and their respective serial killers. I have never known Italy to be scary as shit. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH HEADCANON I HAVE BASED ON THIS. Well, mine's a little different, but.

Turbulence Before Takeoff-- America flips shit about being gay. There is so much hilarity it can not be described in words.

We Don't Need No Stinkin' Prophecies!-- England bitchslaps Voldemort.

And, unfortunately, I have an abundance of fics I call "those where Lindas dare not tread." You can only guess where this is going.

Better a Live Dog-- UK&France/Russia + Turkey. Crimean War, sane Russia on a slippery slope downhill by the end. Pretty damn dark.

Under Control parts 1 and 2-- Prussia/Teen!America, revolutionary war. Surprisingly IC.

End of the World-- Russia/America, post-apocalypse. SO DEPRESSING.

Russia/Communism-- sounds funny but is surprisingly dark.

So, okay, synopsis:

Basically the whole story revolves around America (and Canada to some degree) growing up. England goes fucking nuts with power and is referred to as "The British Empire". There's a TON of historical events (and figures! Churchill and several American presidents make appearances ~~and America calls George Washington "father" awwwwww I'm so using this in RP now~~) that basically center around America's desire to grow up to be a world superpower. There's the reoccurring theme of Washington's wish not to get involved with European affairs, which plays a lot into the story up until WWI. Russia, Austria, Prussia, and France show up quite a few times, the Axis Powers towards the end. What's awesome is that it has SO MUCH to do with historical events and American hegemony. Not all of it's accurate and it gets kinda... weird, even more so towards the end, but c'mon. HE JUST FUCKING RIPPED THE HEGEMONY OUT OF ENGLAND. THAT WILL NEVER STOP BEING AWESOME.

It is SO FUCKING LONG (like more than 200 pages) but so worth it for all the Hetalia readers. It says it's USxUK but really it's much more familial love than an actual pairing, considering America basically calls England his mother. Link to the doujin is in the Hetalia comm here.

The question you should be asking yourself is: why not?

I woke up at noon to someone knocking on my door. My friends came to watch Shock Treatment and half of Season 1 of Supernatural in my room. This was after a six hour Firefly marathon the night before. They were in my room for 12 hours. I was with these people for twelve hours watching Supernatural today.

IT WAS GLORIOUS. May even become a ritual.

I managed to get some of my homework done yay. Still have the tests to study for and laundry to do. Hooray.

So, for those of you who remember me freaking out about my history exam yesterday?

I KICKED ITS ASS.

Well, except for the bibliography section, but that was only 10% total. But oh my god. I was so worried that it would all be on Africa and the Middle East, but it basically just asked about commercial cities and Islam. Strangely, the only thing I actually was like "shiiiitttt I hope I included enough info on it" was on Kiev. Fucking. Kiev. I didn't know what to say other than "uhhhh trading city, architecture modeled after Byzantine's St. Sophia, INSERT SOMETHING HERE ABOUT CHRISTIANITY". Ughhh goddamn you Russia/Ukraine/what the fuck were you back then.

I only had 20 minutes to do an essay. I was so scared I wouldn't finish/I wouldn't know what to write about. The question I chose? "During this era, which was the stronger civilization: China or Europe?"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I dominated that essay. I have betrayed Europe, but seriously. China had it goin' on. I even said something along the lines of "The Crusades were proof that during this era, the Europeans failed so hard military-wise they couldn't invade anyone but themselves." And then I rambled about paper currency and bureaucracy and it was glorious.

On a different note: at our school, there's a cork board in the cafeteria where students write on napkins and give praise/criticism to whatever food was in the cafeteria. My friend Megan writes these really poetic, awesome notes about seafood and whatnot. I have taken it upon myself to build an identity as the person who draws weird animals with no relevance to the cafeteria. Yesterday it was a Narwhal. Today it was a Honduran White Bat. What will it be tomorrow? WHO THE FUCK KNOWS.

Also, I like how whenever someone mentions doing laundry, three of my friends and I break into that Dr. Horrible song.

Ahhhhhh two more tests next week. Psychology shouldn't be too bad, since I've already had it before and it's on neuroscience, but Biology. I don't even know. FUCK PROTEINS. That's all I have to say on that.

And yay for Family Weekend next week! My dad's bringing Jack upppppp I must show him off to everyone ever.

As you can tell, I listed the things above because it makes me sound smart. Need a confidence booster, because seriously I'm going to cry my eyes out when we study lipids. And probably tomorrow before the quiz. And I'm having too much fun with the little bits of Chem in Bio and Psych, why am I not in Chem.

Oh, right, because I suck math. Though it did give me an unholy amount of joy to immediately get how ionic compounds work. I looked at it and went "IONNNSSSS YOU ARE MY FRIENDS. LET US JOIN TOGETHER TO MAKE TABLE SALT."

And I was worried about my sciences. Oh, how wrong my priorities were.

Ahhhhhh at least I have psychology and film tomorrow to make things better after I FAIL TO FIND WHERE ISFAHAN IS.

Woooooo home for the weekend. Kinda missing my dorm, but man is it good to see my mom and dog again.

Also oh my god one of my new college friends got me into Assassins. She gave me the Broadway recording with Neil Patrick Harris and I'm going to borrow the screenplay from her when she's done. IT'S SO GOOD. I wish I'd seen the actual show.

I nearly choked when Regan said "WHERE'D THIS KID LEARN TO SHOOT, THE RUSSIAN ARMY?" and ahhhh Ambassador of France I should not be laughing at Guiteau.

I CANNOT BEGIN TO SAY HOW MUCH I'M GOING TO ENJOY MY FILM CLASS. WE'RE WATCHING WAR OF THE WORLDS NEXT CLASS. ALL WE DID LAST CLASS WAS TALK ABOUT MOVIES. MY TEACHER WATCHES GHOST IN THE SHELL AND SOMETIMES SHOWS IT. WE MIGHT TAKE A FIELD TRIP TO SEE DISTRICT 9. HALF OF THE CLASS KNOWS WHAT RED VS. BLUE IS.

I'm exciteddddd.

Surprisingly, very little homework (read: none) for bio. The teacher is just like "oh yeah you guys should just study as much as is necessary for you and maybe I'll give you some papers every once in a while idk". She asked us to take a survey, one of the questions being what things might concern us about the course. My answer: Everything ever.

I also said I wanted a job with manatees. Seriously, how cool would that be? Those have to be the most harmless yet interesting creatures to exist.

On the RP front: from what it looks like now, my course load won't be so terrible on a regular basis. I'm gonna stay on hiatus until this weekend though. ~~I'm already planning how to use RP to help study oh god I'm turning into Linda.~~ I hope I don't get inactive with Bad Girl againnn. I want to play her, but. idk. Hard to keep active >:

On the other hand, such glorious plans for Stan, America, and Al. Well, Stan as soon as Linda gets off hiatus, America as soon as Namine plans go through, Al as soon as I come up with a cool plan to get his body back/deal with the homunculi/IDK HE NEEDS TO HAVE MORE PEOPLE HIDE IN HIS ARMOR FIRST.

So I just opened my history book. First sentence:

"As any Harry Potter fan knows, the most boring class at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is History of Magic, taught by the dead (and "deadly dull") Professor Binns."

It then goes on to reference and quote Harry Potter at every opportunity for the first chapter.

I am going to like this class.

DID I MENTION MY HISTORY TEACHER'S SPECIALTY IS RUSSIA? Yessss. I mentioned that I'm reading Ivan's War. I think I earned brownie points. On another note, there's a boy in my history class that looks like Hunter Parrish. I think I stared at him for like half the class. There's also a cute boy that sat behind me oh my god it's the first day of class and I'm already scouting out cute boys I'm pathetic.

Read some of my psychology book. It looks like the one I read in high school, so it shouldn't be too hard of a class. I have to participate in experiments and/or critique articles to get credit for the class, which isn't hard so much as it's inconvenient.

Some girls in my dorm and I might throw a fondue party!
